Thanksgiving Treats

With Thanksgiving on the way I thought I would treat the students with a little sweet. One of my favourite fall treats is candy corn. We read the novel "The Candy Corn Contest" written by Patricia Reilly Giff and had a contest of our own! With 6 guesses each - two students came very close to getting the number. One student was on three away and the winner only two away! Following this the students each received a bag of Turkey Toes with two amusing little poems. One poem I've used for many years, titled "I'm Thankful I'm Not a Turkey". The students really enjoy reciting this one and yell out "eat pork" at the end! The other poem I created for the sake of the Turkey Toe sweets.

I'm Thankful I'm Not a Turkey
I'm thankful I'm not a turkey
When it talks it says nothing but "gobble"
When it walks it does nothing but wobble
It lives on a farm with hundreds of friends
But on Thanksgiving a turkey's life ends
I'm thankful I'm not a turkey!
I'm thankful I'm not a turkey
When it talks it says nothing but "gobble"
When it walks it does nothing but wobble
It lives on a farm with hundreds of friends
But on Thanksgiving a turkey's life ends
I'm thankful I'm not a turkey!

TURKEY TOES
They took his feathers, cleaned the meat
So we cooked him up for us to eat.
With potatoes, carrots and gravy too
Thanksgiving dinner for me and you
Stuffed up full, no room for more
But no - now there's dessert in store.
Out mom came with a little orange treat
Saying we musn't forget the tip of his feet!
